Washington, DC area dermatologist explains how dermal fillers work
Dr. Cheryl Burgess is a Board-certified dermatologist in Washington, DC who offers a wide selection of general, medical, and cosmetic dermatology solutions to patients in the community. This includes anti-aging options such as dermal fillers.
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are cosmetic injectables used to target areas of volume loss and skin laxity. These issues can result in the development of fine lines and wrinkles, which contribute to an aged appearance. Instead of undergoing plastic surgery or other invasive treatments, patients can consider the advantages of using dermal fillers instead.
How are dermal fillers administered?
Dermal fillers are administered by injections. A Board-certified dermatologist will determine the best areas of the face to inject the dermal filler for desired results, and work with patients to consider the combinations that can be used for optimum results. Some patients can receive several different injectables to get the youthful appearance they desire. Patients often consider using these fillers in conjunction with other cosmetic treatments for an amazing new look!
The types of dermal fillers available at our practice
Dr. Cheryl Burgess is excited to offer a large line of brand-name products in her practice, which includes:
- Juvéderm Ultra®
- Juvéderm Voluma®
- Restylane Lyft®
Most of these fillers are formulated with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid or poly-L-lactic acid. Hyaluronic acid offers immediate volume and is injected directly into the wrinkles and folds of concern, while poly-L-lactic acid works by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin where it is injected. Patients can combine both of these fillers along with neuromodulators (such as Botox®) for dramatic results!
At the Center for Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, our team of professionals welcome new patients who are ready to discuss the benefits of cosmetic solutions such as dermal fillers. Patients can contact either practice, conveniently located in Annapolis and Washington, DC.
