Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatment at Washington, DC, and Annapolis, MD

Dr. Cheryl Burgess of the Center for Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery sees patients regularly who are seeking a quick, effective way of rejuvenating their skin. These patients are often introduced to a treatment known as intense pulse light, or IPL.

Intense pulsed light treatments are a great way for patients to enjoy beautiful skin. This treatment uses a special wavelength of light that penetrates into the deeper layer of the skin to stimulate collagen and improve skin laxity. It can alleviate issues such as:

  • Brown spots
  • Broken capillaries/blood vessels
  • Rough textured skin
  • Facial redness
  • Large pores
  • Acne
  • Acne scars

IPL treatment is a relatively fast procedure done under the care of a board certified dermatologist, Dr. Cheryl Burgess. The treatment is performed while patients rest in the treatment chair while Dr. Cheryl Burgess uses a specialized device that emits light used to stimulate skin that is more beautiful! Treatments are short and several should be spaced weeks apart. Most patients will book their appointments once a month for approximately six months for optimum results.

Intense pulsed light services can be used on almost any part of the body, but are commonly performed on the:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Décolleté
  • Back
  • Chest
  • Arms
  • Legs
  • Hands

Patients who undergo intense pulsed light are educated on what to expect before, during, and after the treatments. After patients have IPL services, it is very important for them to wear sunscreen and reduce their sun exposure, as their skin may be more sensitive than it was before. All of these issues can be discussed with patients during their initial consultation appointment with our board certified dermatologist, Dr. Cheryl Burgess.

If you reside in or around the communities of Annapolis, Maryland or Washington, DC, Dr. Cheryl Burgess can assist you with enhancing your appearance with intense pulsed light and many other cosmetic solutions available in her state-of-the-art practice. Using some of the quality devices cleared by the FDA, she can ensure results are achieved quickly and easily with our many technologically advanced solutions.
