Resurfacing the skin to improve texture and tone can be done in a myriad of ways. However, Dr. Cheryl Burgess of the Washington, DC and Maryland areas believe that the most effective way of achieving better skin is with the Fraxel® laser treatment.
Fraxel® is a procedure that is done to rejuvenate the skin, typically on the face, neck and décolletage. This treatment is performed for adult patients who have concerns regarding the texture and tone of their skin and want an effective treatment to address it. Dr. Cheryl Burgess and the team of the Center for Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery encourage patients to learn about the ways in which their skin can be improved with one or more Fraxel® laser therapies.
The Fraxel® device is used to help improve skin cell turnover. It does this by administering wavelengths of light that can resurface and reduce the appearance of scar tissue, fine lines, wrinkles and even stretch marks. At the same time, it can stimulate collagen production to help tighten and tone the skin in a way not achieved by any other methods. Dr. Cheryl Burgess has the experience necessary to provide these treatments and ensure safety throughout.
Fraxel® treatment may be slightly uncomfortable. This is why she administers topical anesthetics onto the skin before the treatment. This can take approximately an hour before the skin is numbed. Once this has occurred, the treatment begins. Dr. Cheryl Burgess uses the Fraxel® laser on the skin, which can be done within approximately 30 minutes when the treatment is performed on the face.
Patients do need to take into account some recovery time after the procedure. Patients will experience skin sloughing off for several days following the appointment. They must follow specific after-care instructions to maintain the health of their skin during this time. Once the upper layer of the skin has come off it, it reveals healthy, beautiful skin underneath. The entire process takes less than a week and patients are excited to see how dramatic the results can be!
