Fraxel® does provide some immediate results, but the true results occur over the course of time. Patients will see improvement in the way their skin looks and feels and can undergo several treatments to continue to see an enhancement. Fraxel® is relatively comfortable for patients, as Dr. Cheryl Burgess will apply a topical solution that will assist in anesthetizing the skin before the laser therapy is performed. The Fraxel® device is run along the skin and it stimulates the production of collagen while treating the problems at the surface. Fraxel® treatment is non-invasive; though patients may experience some redness and swelling of the skin afterward. There may be some flaking and bronzing of the skin several days later and patients are advised to reduce sun exposure and use high SPF sunscreen following their treatment. However, most patients are able to return to work and play without any recovery time and can cover many of these imperfections with cosmetics.
