At the Center for Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, Dr. Cheryl Burgess and her team work with patients in Washington, DC, to help them find solutions to common skin concerns. One common complaint is the development of skin laxity that occurs on aging skin. After the age of 30, men and women begin to lose their natural stores of collagen and elastin, which in turn loosens the skin. This skin laxity allows for the development of fine lines and wrinkles. While many patients turn to a plastic surgeon for assistance, there is a non-surgical way of tightening the skin. These procedures are readily available at our practice and are administered by our board-certified dermatologist or one of her trained and experienced associates.
What are the non-surgical skin tightening procedures available with Dr. Cheryl Burgess?
There are three types of skin tightening treatments available at our practice, including Ultherapy, PelleFirm and Pelleve.
- Pelleve – this radiofrequency treatment is used on the skin to stimulate collagen production to lift and tighten the skin and was cleared and approved by the FDA in 2009. It is effective at addressing the appearance of mild to moderate wrinkles on the face.
- PelleFirm – don’t let your face get all the attention! PelleFirm is another type of device that offers radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen but is better used on larger parts of the body, such as the thigh and buttocks, to address loose skin and cellulite.
- Ultherapy – Ultherapy uses ultrasound technology to stimulate your natural collagen to lift and tighten your neck, brows, under the chin area and improve lines & wrinkles on the upper chest and used best on large parts of the body, including the arms, legs, buttocks and abdominal area.
Which one is right for me?
During a consultation visit with our board-certified dermatologist, patients will learn about each treatment and find out which one is most appropriate for their unique needs.
