Our skin is constantly undergoing changes, many of which can leave us feeling dissatisfied with our overall appearance. Board Certified dermatologist Dr. Cheryl Burgess works with patients on an individual basis to devise the most suitable treatment plan for skin rejuvenation. There are many options for correcting dullness, rough texture and other common signs of aging, with fractional laser resurfacing a popular choice in our Annapolis and Washington D.C. offices.
Fractional laser resurfacing can address signs of aging that develop on the hands, face and body. At Center for Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, you can discover the benefits of fractional laser resurfacing using Fraxel® technology.
FDA-cleared Fraxel® lasers are effective for skin rejuvenation. A type of fractional laser resurfacing, Fraxel® breaks down light energy into thousands of tiny fragments, each penetrating the skin without harming nearby tissues. Varying wavelengths in Fraxel® treatments address different needs, stimulating the production of collagen for the growth of beautiful, healthy skin cells while simultaneously removing dull cells that diminish the look of the skin.
Board Certified dermatologist Dr. Cheryl Burgess has extensive training in the various modalities relevant to skin rejuvenation. Most skin types and tones can reap the benefits of fractional skin resurfacing, which can significantly improve the appearance of:
The Fraxel® experience begins with a consultation appointment in which you can discuss your aesthetic concerns with Dr. Burgess. An examination of the skin is performed, in which skin type and condition are evaluated. If Fraxel® is the most appropriate technology to address your concerns; your treatment appointment will be scheduled.
Fraxel® treatments are comfortable and easy to tolerate. Dr. Burgess may begin by cleansing the skin and applying a topical anesthetic. During treatment, a warming sensation may be felt as the laser is moved across the skin.
For the first day or two after treatment, the skin will feel as if you have spent some time under the sun. Minor swelling and redness may also occur, dissipating within a few days. Sunscreen should be applied daily and makeup can be worn.
Over the course of a few days, the skin will look darker, like a suntan. As skin cells are exfoliated, flaking may occur, lasting up to five days. The effects of peeling can be concealed somewhat by applying moisturizer regularly. Your doctor will discuss the most suitable moisturizers for optimal healing.
Fractional laser resurfacing is ideal for many situations. Depending on the goals you wish to achieve, Dr. Burgess may recommend several treatments scheduled a few weeks apart. Over the course of the months following treatment, the skin will continue to improve as healthy new cells continue to grow.
Dr. Burgess and the team at Center for Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery are excited to help patients experience the difference professional care makes to the skin. Contact us in Annapolis or Washington D.C. for your consultation.
