Injectables have been used for years for facial enhancement. Many patients are familiar with neuromodulators such as Botox®, which can be used to address wrinkles and folds on the face. There is a wide range of injectables now in addition to neuromodulators, including dermal fillers made of hyaluronic acid and even collagen stimulators. Collagen stimulators are a more long-term option and include brands such as Sculptra®.
Sculptra® is an injectable that not only adds volume to the area it is injected, but also can help in stimulating the body’s natural production of collagen. Collagen is lost over the years after about the age of 30. This gradual process results in the relaxing of skin and the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. By stimulating the production of collagen, patients can enjoy more volume and less wrinkles, helping their skin look firmer and more youthful.
Sculptra® can be done without an invasive procedure such as a traditional facelift. Patients schedule an appointment at our practice for the injections. Dr. Cheryl Burgess will make a determination as to the best areas to inject Sculptra® for the most effective results. The injections are done and patients leave the office to await the results. Several injections may be needed over time to maintain the results, but they can last approximately two years – longer than traditional dermal fillers.
