Patients with dull, poorly textured skin in the Washington, DC area are welcome to visit the practice of board certified dermatologist, Dr. Cheryl Burgess. At the Center for Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, patients can seek a wide range of medical and cosmetic services. Our practice has some of the best state-of-the-art devices and innovative technologies to achieve what was once not thought possible!
Dull skin that needs rejuvenation can be easily achieved with a treatment known as microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion has been used for many years to help slough off dead, dull skin on the top layer to exfoliate and bring forth fresher, more youthful skin. Microdermabrasion is done by using a pen-like device with a special tip on the end. This tip is moved along the skin and has tiny crystals that are sprayed out to exfoliate. This procedure is somewhat similar to dermabrasion but much less aggressive and can be done without the use of topical numbing creams.
Microdermabrasion can be done as a “lunchtime treatment” as it takes approximately a half hour to treat the face. Patients will have some slight redness afterwards but this will subside. Many are able to return to their regular daily activities following treatment without any downtime. However, after a few days, patients will notice their skin is brighter, softer and much more youthful, making it a wonderful treatment for all patients!
Patients must first consult with their dermatological team to find out if they are an appropriate candidate for this procedure. Most patients can enjoy microdermabrasion and may choose this treatment option over alternative solutions such as chemical peels, dermabrasion and laser rejuvenation services. By knowing all the treatment options available, patients can work with their dermatologist to make an educated decision on whether they can benefit from microdermabrasion treatment.
