Annapolis dermatologist describes Botox®

Botox® is a neuromodulator formulated with botulinum toxin type A. This medication is known for inhibiting muscle contractions. It has been used for decades for medical conditions. However, it has also been shown to provide facial enhancement. By injecting Botox® into certain muscles in the face, folds, wrinkles are smoothed out. This allows the skin to be smoother and look more youthful.
Botox® is most commonly used on the upper portion of the face, typically addressing situations such as crow’s feet, folds on the forehead and the “elevens” which appear between the eyebrows when one scowls or frowns. These are all muscle-related creases that can be reduced in appearance with Botox® injections.
Botox® is not the only brand of neuromodulator available in our practice. Dr. Cheryl Burgess also provides Xeomin® and Dysport®, both comparable in effectiveness and price. During a consultation appointment, patients can learn about each neuromodulator as well as dermal fillers and collagen stimulators, which can be used together to provide the ultimate “liquid face lift.” Patients who have mild to moderate signs of aging may benefit from injectables and avoid the need for invasive surgical procedures used to combat fine lines and wrinkles due to skin laxity.
