Dr. Cheryl Burgess, board certified dermatologist, understands that many patients in and around the area of Annapolis, MD and Washington, DC are interested in finding out the ways in which they can improve the texture and appearance of their skin. Collagen loss after the age of 30 can result in skin laxity where the skin becomes looser on the face. This can cause fine lines, wrinkles and folds to develop, resulting in an aged appearance. The team of the Center for Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery is proud to offer a treatment that can help called Ultherapy.

Ultherapy is a revolutionary way for patients to achieve lifting and tightening of the facial skin without plastic surgery. Forget the face lift and the expense and risk that come with it and instead utilize treatments such as Ultherapy for optimum results.

Ultherapy is a conservative, non-invasive method of lifting and tightening the skin, addressing unwanted skin laxity and fine lines and wrinkles. It can be used anywhere on the face and is also FDA-cleared to be used on lines and wrinkles on the décolletage area.

What is Ultherapy?

Ultherapy is a skin tightening procedure that uses ultrasound and it goes to a depth deeper than radiofrequency. It’s a newer technology where tissues are heated to about 67°C instead of 42°C leading to more discomfort with this procedure.

This procedure is typically done on the face and the neck, but there are other indications of using it, such as the mid-chest and other areas of the trunk and extremities to tighten the skin.

How long does the process take?

It takes about 4 – 6 months before you see results from the treatment, but there are plenty of before and after images that show patients the subtleness of the tightening.

It’s not dramatic, unlike a facelift, but we do indeed see tightening.

Who is the ideal candidate?

When the skin starts to sag a little at a certain age, this is the time to discuss Ultherapy.

Not to the point where you can pinch an inch like a facelift. A facelift may be less costly, but you have to pinch a certain amount of skin to see any improvement on a facelift, unlike with Ultherapy.

So short of a facelift, this is the next best available thing that tightens skin. Having it as a yearly procedure can keep the skin tight for several years.

Feel free to call us and learn more about Ultherapy.

Ultherapy works in an unusual way. Using ultrasound energy, it helps in stimulating the production of collagen, which can add volume to the skin. It enhances the natural appearance without surgery and does not require patients to schedule any downtime or recovery. In fact, patients who undergo Ultherapy appointments can jump right back into their busy, active lifestyles without any interruption.

Most patients are appropriate candidates for Ultherapy, though it is still important for individuals to speak with Dr. Cheryl Burgess about their medical history and any pharmaceuticals they take on a regular basis to ensure it is safe to proceed with treatment.
