Treatment options for acne scars at Washington, DC area dermatology practice

Posted By

Patients who have experienced acne in the past may notice that they continue to see reminders of this condition with the appearance of acne scars. Sometimes acne blemishes can cause divots and marks that may negatively impact one's appearance. It can cause patients to feel self-conscious about how they look, especially if the acne scars are prevalent on many areas of the face. Sometimes cosmetics can be used to cover up this scarring, but often, it will not provide the results patients desire.

Dr. Cheryl Burgess is a board certified dermatologist at the Center for Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery. She is dedicated to helping patients fully understand the treatment options available to them for addressing acne scarring. Patients in and around the areas of Washington, DC and Annapolis, MD are welcome to book an appointment with her to find out how acne scarring can be corrected.

There are many methods available for the correction of acne scarring and improving the texture and appearance of the skin. These methods include:

Subcision and Needling

Acne scars can be improved with subcision and needling procedures. Needling procedures are especially beneficial for patients who are struggling with the appearance of ice pick scars.

Laser skin resurfacing

Using the Fraxel® laser device, patients can have their acne scars smoothed out with the stimulation of collagen production deep within the skin. Any pigmentation issues can also be addressed with this same device, as well as reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Injectables

Cosmetic injectables such as Juvéderm® are readily available to patients in our practice seeking a fast and effective way of temporarily filling in acne scars. Injectables are done quickly and easily in the treatment chair and the effects can last several months, sometimes up to a year!

Chemical peels

Chemical peels may be used on patients with all skin types to remove dead skin cells and bring forth youthful, beautiful skin. This can greatly assist with acne scars that result in discoloration of the skin.
