Dermatologist in Washington describes cosmetic injectables

Dr. Cheryl M. Burgess Dermatologist in Washington describes cosmetic injectables

At the Center for Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery in Washington DC, we understand how important facial enhancement can be for both men and women who are struggling with the unsightly signs of aging. Fine lines, wrinkles, and folds on the face can become a true concern for those who want to maintain their youthful appearance. When it comes to skin issues, instead of speaking to a plastic surgeon regarding expensive procedures that require high costs, downtime, and scarring, many patients take the time to speak to their dermatologist, Dr. Cheryl Burgess, about cosmetic injectables.

Cosmetic injectables are medications and gels that can be administered into the muscles or skin to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Dr. Cheryl Burgess is proud to offer a myriad of injections through her state-of-the-art facility for patients of all skin colors and pigmentations. She is a board certified dermatologist in the Washington, DC area who administers these injections herself and encourages patients to learn more about them.

Below is a sampling of the different types of injectables used in her practice for restoring youth:

Neuromodulators (BOTOX® / XEOMIN®/ DYSPORT)

Some wrinkles and folds are a result of muscle contractions. When we frown or smile, these muscles can cause lines in the face that can last many years. Neuromodulators are medications made of neurotoxins that can relax these muscles and result in a smoothing of the skin. Common neuromodulators include Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport.

Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers (JUVEDERM / RESTYLANE / BELOTERO)

Dermal fillers made with hyaluronic acid are extremely safe and can provide immediate results. These injectables are made to attract water to the area of the skin in which they are injected, adding instant volume. These are FDA-approved to be used for cosmetic enhancement and include brands such as Juvederm, Restylane and Belotero.

Collagen Stimulators

Some patients prefer long-term results in a more natural manner which may indicate a desire for a collagen stimulator. Collagen loss occurs over the course of time and results in unwanted skin laxity. It can be improved with the use of collagen stimulators which help ramp up the production of collagen and elastin in the skin. This allows patients to see gradual improvements over time and enjoy these results for many years versus months with other injectables.
